Hi Morrah the band, Iv yet to hear your music being in Australia and all, but I am a fan of Metal!!. I am writing in regards to Morrah and the meaning of it as a name, which is interesting to others posted here, My mothers Maiden name is Morrah, which has always been a mystery to me, it was presumed English in Origin, and from an early age my mum told me it meant 'The dark one', ultimately this could mean a few things so with some imagination and internet connection I have come to some information regarding this mystical Morrah's origins. With the help of Wikipedia not sure if you are familiar with it, I found that like Alexander said about the russian versions of the swedish word, and since in my own family history, talk was there was a name change some time ago, due to communism or something. So morra could be a truer version of it. Morra is a place name of a part of Dongeradeel in Friesland, which accoring to wiki state as to milk is to cheese, as are the english and the Frise, Friesland is known for it's agricultural cattle and Frisian Horse, during the middle ages they were in high demand, due to it's strength, to carry knights in full armour(note the horse is black 'a dark one'). Also Mora is quite a popular place name, a game, a drink knife and clock, but I found interesting the linguistics and mythology associated with it, The linguistics of mora term meaning 'a period of time''pause and delay', which is interesting considering the name morrow is quite similar and for me a considered name prior to the changing due to communism, morrow forms parts of words and sentences like Tomorrow or I will see you on the morrow, which refers to the passing of the night or 'Dark time'. In polish mythology The mora were the souls of living people who leave their bodies during the night(once again reference to the dark time) are seen as wisps of hair or as moths (cratures of the night), In serbian language mora refers to a nightmare, note within this word is 'Mare' a female horse, Horses are believed to carry spirits back and forth between this world and the underworld, the english word 'nightmare' refers to the belief that a mare would take the soul for a ride while the person is dreaming in norwegian nightmare is called Mareritt, which means 'ridden by mare' In europe different versions seem to stem together the goddess Epona was a european goddess of horses. Also Mora or Mara in slav mythology were a dark spirit that takes the form of a beautiful woman who then visits mea in their dreams tourturing men with desire, and dragging life out of them, this sounds to me like a succubi to me, which are linked in with Lilith the original dark woman, powerful, seductive, intense, would not lie beneath adam belief in her own superiority, independant 'night/being demon' nightowl, vampires paramour of satan or samael. who with him created the lilin or succubi. Mare was term for the sense of pressure across the chest, which occured during sleep, old norse Mara. Incubo in italian is the same as nightmare, incubo similar to incubi.(male version of succubi)
Mara or Mare in scandinavian mytho is a malignant female wraith believed to cause nightmares, sleeping woman who 's spirits strayed from their bodies could become Maras, either out of wickedness or from a curse, mara repeated 3 times was supposed to release them. The irish deity morrigan and the buddist demon mara are said to have derived from this ancient indoeuropean word of : mer 'meaning to rub away or harm'. Mara is also the hindu goddess of death. So with all this information Im guessing the roots of the word Morrah are dark and feminine and powerful, linked to the night horses, other night beings like owls, moths etc, and of a spirit realm older than you or I(goddess oriented)and death.Daemons have been referred to as a spiritual force not only malignant, the original word stemming from Deiwos meaning celestial or bright and shining I could keep writing as the information and links are vast, if you get the chance have a look at wikipedia its very good with it's information, maybe it might help you understand something about the origins of this name which seem to be very old & mysterious. Good name or concept for a death, black, doom band. Probably not so happy if your christian?:), but pagan oriented more suitable. So all the Morrah's out their How do you sleep? :P
